Company Interests:
Headquartered in Remscheid, Germany, Vaillant Group is an internationally successful group that focuses on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning technology. As one of the world's market and technology leaders, the company develops and produces tailor-made products, systems and services for domestic comfort. The product portfolio ranges from energy-efficient heating appliances based on fossil fuels to system solutions for the use of regenerative energies. In 2006, Vaillant Group, which has been family-owned since its founding in 1874, achieved sales totalling about €2 billion with approximately 10,100 employees. The company is a leader in the development of fuel cell technology.
Achievements in 2006:
Fuel Cell Heating Appliances, ready for the market and suitable for both, one-family homes and multi-family dwellings. These are the main development objectives of the German manufacturer of heating technology. Vaillant has been working at the development of fuel cells for private homes since 1998. Within the scope of a field test series Vaillant successfully operated 60 installed field test appliances until the end of 2006. In total these appliances situated in multi-family homes generated over 1.000.000 kWh electric power during 408.000 operating hours. Based on the experience gained in these field tests, Vaillant and its long-time development partner Plug Power continue to further optimize the fuel cell heating appliances for multi-family homes. Vaillant concurrently has extended its development activities in the field of fuel cell heating appliances to their application in one-family homes. Therefore Vaillant and Webasto AG, a supplier of automotive components, signed a cooperation agreement. Both companies will be the first to benefit from substantial synergies in heating technology and the automotive sector.

News at HANNOVER MESSE 2007:
At the end of 2006 the development efforts were again intensified and boosted. Guided by Vaillant a transatlantic consortium made of 7 European and 2 US partners cooperates to further develop this technology with the utmost aim of reducing costs and developing simplified technology. Vaillant follows two promising fuel cell technologies for a broad market range for one-family and multi-family homes. For both development activities the following principle holds good: quality before haste. The systems will be launched for series production only if all tests have proved reliability and fitness for purpose.
