The Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe is one of the largest non-commercial science and engineering research institutions in Germany. In February 2008 the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and the University of Karlsruhe signed the foundation contract of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
 
Main research topics of the Institute for Nuclear and Energy Technology:
Experimental and numerical investigation of safety related questions in Hydrogen systems.
Analysis of release, distribution and combustion scenarios.
Model development for and validation of specialized 3D computational fluid dynamics codes.
 
Achievements:
Acquisition of new large scale experimental facilities for Hydrogen safety studies.
Successful participation in blind benchmark simulations of Hydrogen distribution and combustion experiments.
Hydrogen related safety investigations for three operating German nuclear power plants.
Successful analysis of workshop for Hydrogen cars.
