The Federation for Fuel Cell Research CNRS is a joint unit that gathers 110 people (researchers, PhD students, Post-Doc, engineers, technicians and administrative staff) working on fuel cell systems and hydrogen energy. The applications aimed by FCLAB are systems of energy generation or storage, either embedded (electric and hybrid vehicles, special or consumer vehicles) or stationary (decentralized hybrid supplies, storage plug of electrical energy). FCLAB aims at conducting research in science and technology in these areas in the following topics in partnership with the industry:

• Experimental tests, modeling and emulation of fuel cell systems in extreme operating conditions
• Conception, modeling and optimization of ad-hoc ancillaries of fuel cell systems (compressors, humidifiers, static converters,
   cooling, …)
• PHM (Prognostics & Health Management) and diagnostics of fuel cell systems
• Hybridization, control and system optimization of fuel cell systems
• Development of IT-SOFC core fuel cells and stack integration
• Electrolyzer based systems for electric energy storage as hydrogen-energy
• Social acceptability of Hydrogen-Energy technologies

Sapphire project (FP7 FCH JU, grant agreement No 325275):
SAPPHIRE is a European research project funded by the European Commission through the Fuel Cells & Hydrogen Joint Undertaking. The project's objective is to develop an advanced control system for a methane-fed fuel-cell system for combined heat and power. The key feature of this new control system will be to increase the lifetime of these systems to 20,000 hours and beyond with current technology.
