The EU-project SOCTESQA aims to develop standardized, industry-ready test procedures and protocols for the objective characterization and performance assessment of commercial Solid Oxide Cell (SOC) assemblies. SOC are devices that use electrochemical reactions for the direct conversion of electrical into chemical energy, and vice-versa. This makes them adamantly suitable for clean power generation at any scale, renewable power storage (“power to gas”) and grid stabilization.
SOCTESQA addresses application fields for the operation of SOC assemblies in both fuel cell (SOFC) and electrolysis (SOEC) mode. The results of the project are already being used for the definition of a new IEC standard (62282-8-101) on fuel cells for energy storage, including regenerative operation.
